If you drank water from the hose or the tap as a child chances are you consumed fluoride. Fluoride is a toxic industrial waste product, which is also contaminated with lead, arsenic, radionucleotides, aluminum, and other industrial contaminants.
Fluoride is a neurodevelopmental toxin, and after a review of brain studies involving the use of fluoride, it has been concluded that one of the adverse effects of fluoride exposure on children is damage to their neurological development. According to the Harvard researchers, children who lived in high-fluoride areas had “significantly lower IQ than those in low fluoride areas.”
Since most of us were exposed to fluoride as children, what can we do as adults to undo the damage and protect our health?
Curcumin has been found to reduce the effects of neurotoxicity induced by fluoride. Curcumin is the chemical compound in turmeric responsible for it’s bright orange color, is behind a whole host of the medicinal properties such as being antibacterial, reducing risk of heart attacks, delay of diabetes, anti aging properties, preventing cancer as it interferes with several important molecular pathways involved in cancer development, and is a phenomenal anti inflammatory.
This study was authored by researchers from the Department of Zoology, University College of Science, M.L. Sukhadia University. These researchers spent almost a decade investigating the ways in which fluoride induces neurodegenerative changes in the brains of mammals.
They focused for the most part on the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. In order to assess the neurotoxic effects and prove curcumin as a protectant at least on some level, these researchers randomly divided up mice into 4 different groups for thirty days. The groups being: control (no fluoride), fluoride (120 ppm), fluoride (120 ppm/3m mg/kg body weight plus curcumin), and curcumin (30 mg/kg body weight).
The fluoride only treatment group showed elevated MDA levels, commonly known as a marker of oxidative stress and the antioxidant status in cancerous patients, as opposed to the non-fluoride treated control. The fluoride with curcumin group saw reduced MDA levels when compared to the fluoride only group thus demonstrating the protective effects one can attain from curcumin. Of course more research is needed, but this is a sign of good things to come for fans of natural health.
In light of this study, it would be smart to add turmeric into your diet! This miracle roots wide use can be beneficial to your life and health. I personally keep turmeric in my medicine cabinet and take capsules daily!
